Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 818 -- FINANCIAL INTEREST STATEMENTS

SPONSOR: Scott (Smith, 118)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections
by a vote of 5 to 0.

This bill allows certain officers, elected officials, and
candidates from political subdivisions with annual operating
budgets of $2 million or less to be exempt from filing financial
interest statements under Section 105.483, RSMo. Currently, the
exemption applies to specified persons in political subdivisions
with an annual budget of $1 million or less.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is needed so that
volunteer officials in small cities will be exempt from difficult
reporting requirements. The adjustment in the exemption will
take inflation into consideration.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Scott; and Missouri
Municipal League.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
